In the previous part of this article series, we have discussed some areas of our lives where we can reduce our expenses and save more money.
Most recently, we have discussed on how to save more money out of our gadget spendings, and we sure hope it has been working great for you!
Today, our discussion is a bit related to it, and will generally affect all of us: the utility bills.
Utility bills might seem small in the first place but will add up to a significant amount over the years. In fact, studies suggested that the average American spent 5% to 15% of their yearly earning to pay their utility bills.
Without further ado, here are some tips and tricks on how to reduce your utility bills and turn it into more savings:
Keeping our devices plugged in all the time can cost a lot of money on a long-term basis. In fact, in average it has increased $2 billion of utility bills each year in the U.S. alone.
Desktop and laptop computers, modems, TV and cable boxes, stereos, toasters, and even iPods are some of the items that will still consume energy even when not used.
2. Use More Energy Efficient Lighting and Appliances
Switching from your old halogen and fluorescent bulbs to LEDs might cost more initially but will translate to fewer utility bills each month. LED bulbs also have significantly higher lifetime expectancy, and it will need far fewer replacements.
For appliances, look for those with energy star certification, or those with better energy efficiency technology.
3. Adjust Your Thermostat
