"Let’s Save More on Gadgets: Save More Series Part 3"
In our previous article, we have discussed how to save more money by reducing your food expenses. And more recently, we have discussed saving money on fashion items.
While the previous topic about fashion is more of a temptation for women, today, we will discuss something which is more of men's weakness: the gadgets.
Seemingly, every few months there are always another new gadgets to buy. And it's not only limited to cell phones and tablets either. Starting from the new wearable techs, VR toys, game consoles, PCs, notebooks, and many others, they are always ready to break your bank account.
How then, we can reduce expenses on gadgets and save more money while still catering to our hobby and needs? Here are a few tips how:
1. Forget Cell Phone Contract
Installment Plans, and even more, buying at full price will always be a better deal than your traditional multi-year contract.
It may be more expensive initially, but will save you more money in the long run. Thus, more of a motivation to start saving so you won't have to buy a new phone with a contract.
If you are currently under contract with a termination fee, you might be able to move to a different provider that is willing to pay the termination fee.
2. Look For The Best Price (Or Wait Until It Drops Down a Bit)
As tempting (and glamorous) it is to get that new iPhone on day 1, think again. Is it really worth the extra money rather than waiting a few more weeks, or even days?
After the price cools off, compare prices from different retailers to get the best one possible. You can add the price difference to your saving accounts.
3. Get Refurbished Ones
Refurbished goods can look as good as new with significant price differences. Sometimes, you can even save up to $300.
You can ask around to your retailers for refurbished products, such as the Apple Store, Tesco Direct, O2, and many others.
This can also extend to gadgets other than smartphones. For example, Sony sometimes offers refurbished PlayStation with a great price.
4. Reward Yourself
As with our tips for the fashionistas, you can as well make buying a new gadget a saving goal for a motivation.
Split your savings plan into a short-term and a long-term one. For example, set saving $1,000 in three months as your short-term saving plan, and $100 a month for your long-term plan.
If you reach your short-term goal, you can use some of it to buy new gadgets. This way, it might trick your mindset so that you will stay motivated, and committed to saving more money.
There are smart ways to reduce your gadget expenses while staying up to date on the current trends.
In the next parts of the article series, we will discuss other aspects of our lives where we can reduce our expenses and start saving more. Stay tuned!
