"I have used the service of Amscot for a while, the branch at East Colonial Drive is located near where I live at, and I used their check cashing service a lot. I also used their payday loan service from time to time, mainly a few years back when I was having some financial trouble.
First of all, I have to say that my neighborhood is not necessarily a nice one, and they have to deal with a lot of weird people from time to time. From my experiences, they always give proper and friendly customer service, even to the most annoying customers, so I have to give them props there. In my case, they were always friendly and helpful and would take the time in answering my questions. The loan application process was always fast, and I never really spent more than 30 minutes to get my loans approved.
However, sometimes on a busy day, the line was often long, and there were only one or two clerks open, so I would advise you from visiting during busy hours.
In short, I have mostly good experiences with them, but that change a few weeks ago. I haven't taken any loan for almost a year, mostly because my financial situation got better. Last month, I was having some financial emergencies, so I decided to take another loan from them. I was surprised to find most of the employees have been replaced, and then I found out that they had a change in management. However, I got the loan I needed and was approved in a quick manner. The clerk was not friendly as usual, and to be honest, a bit rude with his service, but since I got what I needed, I let it go.
Since I was still a bit short in cash, it took me until the very last day of the due date to get the loan payment. I visited Amscot at 8:30 PM, and I was surprised that they were already closed. The sign on the door clearly says 9 pm, and during all these years, they never closed early. As a result, I got charged with a late fee when I went to pay the very next day. I complained that they were closing early, and I was there by 8:40 pm. I even took a photo with my smartphone, but they were saying that I faked the time. The guy was also really rude, and accusing me as a liar. What an unpleasant experience, and during all these years, I was never behind on their payments. I complained really hard and was asking to meet the manager, but he said the manager was not present. I knew that a manager had to be present in the store, but in the end, I decided to let it go because I got tired of the endless argument.
They used to be a really great place, but I guess their quality declined over the years. They didn't care about their customers anymore, and well, they just lost a loyal long-term customer."
